The Sacramento Kings and Charlotte Hornets have discussed a trade centered on Domantas Sabonis. One framework had Charlotte sending Miles Bridges, Josh Green and a first-round pick to Sacramento for the three-time All-Star center. The Hornets own the Nos. 14 and 18 picks in the June 23 draft, and those selections became the primary obstacle.

Sabonis would give the Hornets a proven physical frontcourt presence alongside LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller. Yet his $45.4 million salary for 2026-27 and two years remaining on the contract would create significant cap constraints for a rebuilding roster. Bridges offers scoring and defensive versatility on an expiring deal, but his inconsistent efficiency and off-court issues make the package less attractive to Sacramento than additional draft capital would.

A deal appears unlikely before the draft. Both sides could revisit talks later in the summer after Charlotte determines how to use its two first-round picks. If the Hornets keep those selections, they might pivot to expiring contracts or future assets to complete a Sabonis trade. Sacramento would then decide whether to extend Sabonis or seek alternatives ahead of the 2027 offseason.
