Corrections

This site publishes numbers, and numbers are either right or they are not. When something here is wrong we fix it, say what changed, and say when. This page explains how that works and records every substantive correction we have made.

What counts as a correction

Not every change to a figure is an error on our part. The salary and cap data refreshes daily from its source, so a value that differs from what you saw last week has usually been updated rather than corrected. We distinguish between the two:

• A correction is a figure, name, date or relationship that was wrong when published, whether the mistake originated with us or was carried through from a source we relied on. These are logged below with the date and what changed.
• An update is the data changing because the underlying facts changed: a contract signed, a pick traded, a tax projection revised. These happen continuously and are not logged individually.
• Minor fixes such as typos, broken links and formatting are made without a note.

How we handle an error

• The incorrect value is fixed at source, so every page that draws on it updates together.
• Substantive corrections are logged on this page with the date and a plain description of what was wrong.
• Where an error came from an upstream source rather than our own processing, we say so. That is an explanation, not an excuse: publishing it made it ours.
• We do not quietly amend a figure and leave the record looking as though it was always correct.

Report an error

Email contact@courtsidenews.com or use the contact form. The most useful report includes the page address, the figure you believe is wrong, and what you believe it should be. If you have a source, that helps, but it is not required. We check every report against the underlying data whether or not one is provided.

Reports about draft records, pick protections and contract terms are especially welcome. Those are the fields where an error is easiest to miss and most likely to matter.
