Stanley Umude has drawn interest from Barcelona as the former Pistons guard enters free agency after four NBA seasons.
Umude appeared in 24 games for Detroit in 2023-24, logging 12.8 minutes per game while averaging 5.3 points and 2.1 rebounds. His role shrank the next season with Milwaukee, where he played 22 games in just 3.9 minutes per night and shot 19.2 percent from the field. The 2025-26 campaign brought an Exhibit 10 deal with San Antonio, a G League assignment, a December two-way contract, and two total appearances.
Barcelona would give Umude a chance to play competitive basketball outside the United States while remaining on the NBA’s radar. The guard’s perimeter skills and length could help in schemes that prioritize spacing and transition opportunities. His recent shooting woes, particularly the 19.2 percent mark in Milwaukee, point to the value of consistent minutes to regain rhythm and confidence before any future NBA looks.
Undrafted out of South Dakota and Arkansas, Umude began his professional path with an Exhibit 10 deal from the Pistons in 2022. He did not make the initial roster but joined the G League affiliate, earned a 10-day contract in February 2023, and saw action in one NBA game. The subsequent two-way deal was converted to a standard contract, setting the stage for his most extensive NBA run with Detroit the following year.
The veteran’s stops with Detroit, Milwaukee, and San Antonio illustrate the narrow margins for undrafted guards. Brief NBA exposure often gives way to new opportunities, yet each transaction reflects teams searching for perimeter depth on minimum or two-way deals. Umude’s production in limited action with the Spurs, totaling just two games after the midseason two-way signing, further emphasized the challenge of carving out a sustainable role.
A move to the Spanish club could materialize in the coming weeks as European rosters take shape. Productive play overseas has historically helped similar players earn another shot at Exhibit 10 or two-way contracts the following summer. For Umude, whose four NBA seasons yielded only sporadic minutes, that path offers the most direct route to visibility and renewed opportunity.
