In exchange for Dort, the Hawks surrendered a top-55 protected 2027 second-round pick to Dallas, a 2031 pick that will be the most favorable of Atlanta or Houston to Oklahoma City, and a 2032 pick that will be the most favorable of Atlanta or Los Angeles to Oklahoma City. The two 2031 and 2032 selections are expected to materialize, while the 2027 pick carries a protection that makes its conveyance unlikely.
The trade was driven by a financial decision aimed at freeing cap space for the Thunder to extend younger players Cason Wallace and Ajay Mitchell. By moving Dort’s $17.22 million salary, Oklahoma City created flexibility to lock up those prospects without exceeding the league’s second-apron constraints.
