The Toronto Raptors have fielded trade inquiries for veteran wing RJ Barrett, with the player now part of multi-team conversations. Barrett’s contract expires next season at $29.6 million, a figure that could be leveraged in a larger deal as the club looks ahead to the offseason.

In the 2025-26 campaign Barrett posted a career-best 19.3 points per game on 49.1 percent shooting. He also posted personal highs in true-shooting percentage (58.5 percent) and effective field-goal percentage (55.0 percent), marking his most efficient scoring season to date.

While Barrett has not yet achieved a true breakthrough, he has provided a steady offensive baseline throughout his seven-year tenure. The expiring nature of his contract adds trade value, giving Toronto flexibility to balance the books in a potential blockbuster swap.

Raptors executive vice president Bobby Webster told reporters in May that the organization will hold off on serious extension talks with Barrett. "We’re going to keep all of those conversations private," Webster said, noting that Barrett remains under contract for the upcoming season. The front office has already committed significant money to Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley and Jakob Poeltl, and Brandon Ingram holds a $41.9 million player option for 2027-28, all of which will shape any future decision on Barrett.

Toronto’s recent playoff run, advancing to a seven-game series against the Cleveland Cavaliers after three consecutive missed postseasons, demonstrated progress but also underscored the team’s limited ceiling. Re-signing Barrett to a nine-figure deal could double down on a core that analysts view as having modest upside.

Looking ahead, Webster could package Barrett for an upgrade or for salary relief before the free-agency moratorium. If a trade does not materialize, Barrett will become an unrestricted free agent next summer, where his market value will be dictated by the efficiency surge he displayed and teams’ willingness to absorb his $29.6 million salary. The outcome will significantly influence Toronto’s cap space and roster construction heading into the next draft and offseason.
