The Milwaukee Bucks continue to hold Giannis Antetokounmpo off the market while they solicit formal offers from the Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic. The Heat remain the frontrunner with a package built around Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware and Jaime Jaquez Jr. Milwaukee has made clear it wants to see competing bids before pulling the trigger. A decision is expected before the 2026 NBA Draft.

Giannis carries a $58.456 million salary for the 2026-27 season under the final year of his three-year, $175 million extension. Herro averaged 20.5 points in just 33 games during an injury-shortened 2025-26 campaign. Ware posted 11.1 points and 9.0 rebounds on 53 percent shooting in 22 minutes per game, while Jaquez Jr. reached career highs of 15.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists across 75 appearances. Those numbers illustrate the youth and cost-controlled talent Milwaukee would receive, though the Bucks have signaled they also want multiple first-round picks, including Miami's No. 13 selection this year.

The fit on paper favors Miami. Giannis would pair with Bam Adebayo in a frontcourt that forces switches and creates rim pressure, while Herro and Jaquez Jr. supply the perimeter creation and shooting the Bucks lacked around him. The trade would strip Miami of its depth, however, leaving the Heat reliant on undrafted players and second-round picks to fill the rotation. Milwaukee, by contrast, would gain a young core capable of competing immediately while regaining some draft capital lost in the 2023 Damian Lillard deal.

This delay fits a familiar Bucks pattern of maximizing returns on star assets rather than rushing into the first offer. The front office has already watched Portland potentially serve as a third team to facilitate pick movement, and it is still monitoring whether the Knicks suffer a collapse that reopens their interest in Giannis. The two-time MVP has long been linked to Miami, yet the Bucks are treating every interested party as leverage.

The next two weeks set the timeline. Milwaukee has indicated it prefers to complete any deal before the draft on June 25, giving suitors a narrow window to improve their offers or watch the Heat walk away with the prize. If the Celtics or Wolves present a superior package of young talent and picks, the Bucks could pivot quickly and leave Miami empty-handed for the second straight offseason.

The real test arrives after the draft. Whatever team lands Giannis will inherit both a generational talent and a roster that must be rebuilt around him in one aggressive swing.
