Dennis Hamilton signed with the Lakers as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State ahead of the 1967-68 season and became the first player to wear No. 52 in franchise history.

The 6-foot-8 forward appeared in limited action, averaging 2.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.7 assists across 8.6 minutes per game while shooting from the field at a modest clip that never threatened to expand his role.

Hamilton offered size on the wing but lacked the perimeter shooting or physicality to carve out consistent minutes behind established forwards on a roster still anchored by Elgin Baylor and Jerry West.

His path mirrored many fringe players of that era who bounced between the Lakers, the expansion Hawks and the ABA, where he logged two additional seasons before retiring with career averages of 4.6 points and 3.1 rebounds.

The number itself later passed to more prominent names such as Happy Hairston and Jamaal Wilkes. Hamilton's brief stint remains the only documented use of No. 52 during the franchise's early Los Angeles years.
