Guard Alijah Martin is returning to Toronto on a two-year, $4.8 million contract. The 24-year-old was the Raptors’ 39th-overall pick in the 2025 draft after a collegiate career that culminated with a national championship at Florida. The new deal was announced on Wednesday and includes a partially guaranteed second year, replacing the two-way contract he signed as a rookie.
Martin’s NBA production last season was modest: 2.2 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 23 games, all off the bench. In the G League he posted 18.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 39.2 percent from three-point range over 30 appearances. Those numbers earned him spots on the All-NBA G League Rookie Team, the All-NBA G League Defensive Team and the All-NBA G League third team.
The addition gives Toronto a potential wing to complement its existing scoring options in Gary Trent Jr., RJ Barrett and Scottie Barnes. Martin’s defensive reputation, highlighted by his All-Defensive selection in the G League, aligns with the Raptors’ emphasis on switching and perimeter protection. Offensively, his three-point accuracy at the developmental level suggests he can provide spacing for a motion-heavy offense that relies on floor-stretching shooters.
From a roster-building perspective, the contract reflects the Raptors’ pattern of locking up low-cost, high-upside players who have proved themselves in the G League. A $4.8 million commitment for a player with a proven G League track record offers flexibility under the salary cap while preserving the ability to retain a player who could develop into a reliable bench contributor.
Martin is expected to report to training camp in early September, where the coaching staff will evaluate his defensive rotations and three-point shooting in limited NBA minutes. If he can translate his G League efficiency to the NBA stage, the partially guaranteed second year could become a fully guaranteed asset, cementing his role as a depth piece on Toronto’s bench.
