The Sacramento Kings have held preliminary trade discussions with the Charlotte Hornets centered on Domantas Sabonis, with the Kings seeking one of Charlotte's 2026 first-round selections at No. 14 or No. 18. Similar interest exists in Toronto's No. 19 pick. Those conversations remain exploratory, and no deal appears imminent ahead of the June 23 draft.
Sabonis enters the talks as a 30-year-old three-time All-Star whose salary makes him a target for teams looking to shed payroll. The Kings already own the No. 7 selection and project to use it on a point guard such as Darius Acuff or Kingston Flemings. Adding a mid-first-round asset would allow them to fill a separate roster hole without forcing a reach at No. 7.
A second pick in the 14-to-20 range gives Sacramento the chance to target a wing or frontcourt piece whose skill set complements the guard they select at seven. That approach avoids overloading on backcourt talent while the roster still lacks spacing and defensive versatility on the perimeter.
The front office has shown consistent interest in accumulating draft capital this offseason, a shift from prior windows when the team prioritized veteran additions around Sabonis. Charlotte and Toronto both hold multiple first-rounders and have expressed varying levels of interest in the All-Star center, creating leverage for Sacramento to extract an asset without completing a full deal immediately.
If the Kings secure an additional selection, they will likely finalize the trade before or on draft night to lock in the extra choice. A completed deal after June 23 would leave them with only the No. 7 pick and limited flexibility to address multiple needs in a single offseason.
Securing that extra asset would accelerate the team's pivot away from its current core while still landing a franchise point guard at the top of the draft.
