The Chicago Bulls recorded their first Summer League victory on Tuesday, edging the Washington Wizards 99-87. The Wizards entered the game without No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa, who was shut down for the remainder of the event, and also missing second-year guards Will Riley and Tre Johnson, both slated to miss the rest of the schedule.
Chicago’s No. 4 overall pick Caleb Wilson posted a balanced line of 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists and a block. The production mirrored his Monday performance against the Utah Jazz, where he also tallied 19 points and eight rebounds, differing only in the defensive statistic, two steals in that game versus a block in this one. Wilson’s consistency underscores his early role as a versatile wing for the Bulls.
Jaylin Sellers supplied the Bulls’ scoring punch with a game-high 24 points, converting five of six three-point attempts and adding three steals and a block. Complementing the perimeter firepower, Donovan Atwell contributed 19 points and a steal, while Seth Trimble added 13 points, three rebounds and two steals. Felix Okpara anchored the defense with a block and a steal, rounding out a balanced offensive effort from Chicago’s young core.
For Washington, Chris Livingston led the way with 21 points and four rebounds, also recording a block and a steal despite the depleted roster. The Wizards received additional scoring from Trimble’s 13 points and Okpara’s 12, but the lack of depth limited their ability to keep pace with Chicago’s multiple scoring options.
A defining moment arrived late in the third quarter when Wilson drilled a deep three-pointer at the buzzer, pushing the Bulls to a 66-59 lead heading into the final period. The shot not only extended the margin but also demonstrated the coaching staff’s confidence in allowing a rookie to take high-leverage opportunities.
The Bulls now turn their attention to a Thursday matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers, a test that will reveal how the young core performs against veteran talent. The Wizards, meanwhile, face a back-to-back slate beginning Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers, an opportunity to evaluate resilience without their top draft pick. Both teams will look to build on Tuesday’s outcomes as they continue their development ahead of the regular season.
